August Club since 1969

August Club Since 1969

Malayalam movies entering in to intellectual sector is not a new thing. But what I am sensing nowadays is giving the content is a presentable manner is increased and technical values of the movies are grown par better.

Youngsters like Fahad, Vineeth Srinivasan, Dulqur, Nivin pauly are creating waves and equally mallu girls’ rules kollywood, tollywood, bollywood and mollywood as well. In the list I am seeing lot of confidence with Rima Kallingal. In this August club movie she is splendid, natural as well as portrayed the role very well. She solely balances the whole script.

The movie adopted from Shri Anandha Padbanambans novel / Screenplay Venalinte Kalaneekkangal and directed by K.B.Venu. The Script is sensitive and the technical crew supported it very well. Hats off to Cinematographer Pratap P nair and music director Bennet Veetraag. There is nothing much to say about songs but the Background score is more appreciatable. .

The Story revolves around Rima, a house wife, mom of two kids in a creamy layer gets diverted by a youngster who is part of the club which she plays chess. The whole movie narrates her emotions with the backdrop of the game Chess.

Muraly Gopy as Rimas husband is very much convincing and Praveen Anidil as the younster with traces of grey shades is charming and have a impressive screen presence. Veteran Thilkan also have a space to score and did his role in a usual convincing manner.

The movie has a mature content, not on the scenes but on the emotions and dialogues are more urbanly bold. Rimas friend comment her poetry as “intelltual mastrubation” is  a sample.

On the negative side the movie loses its pace on the second half a bit, and hope the director had the confusion of making the movie critically acllaimed one or the feel good family entertainer. It has all the possiblities of being a critically acclaimed movie but director some what compromised with the trend and the general people mind set.

Verdict : The movie is a must watch especially for the Perfomrance by the lead actors and the aesthatic narration. Keep up the Good Work Venu Sir !!. Expecting a lot in your upcoming movies.
